Progress in quantum dot eSWIR technology.

As colloidal quantum dots become an established image sensor technology Quantum Science Ltd. is turning its attention to the next generation. Current commercial applications are based on Pb containing quantum dots with sensitivity at wavelengths up to ~2000 nm. Extending current quantum dot material sets beyond 2000 nm (eSWIR) and progressing Pb-free material systems are of strategic importance to the imaging market.   The progress in quantum dot eSWIR technology will be presented to demonstrate the superior wavelength tunability of our quantum dots. Pb-free quantum dot materials have technologically advanced into SWIR wavelengths and performance is improving rapidly. This talk will also present the QD synthesis, ink formulation and photodiode work carried out at quantum science and demonstrate that these materials will offer advantages to stability and processing that goes beyond the exclusion of the heavy metal in these products.

Dr. Parth Vashishtha

Dr Parth Vashishtha is the Product Development Manager at Quantum Science (QS) Ltd. Parth is a leading researcher with over 8 years’ experience in the development of semiconductor nanocrystals and optoelectronic devices, including photodiodes, solar cells, and LEDs. Prior to joining QS Ltd, Parth was a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow (Independent Principal Investigator) in the School of Materials Science & Engineering, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore where he led the development of lead-free perovskite materials for solar energy and light emission-based applications. In 2018, he was an Academic Visitor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Alberta, Canada, where he conducted his research works in collaboration with Prof Edward Boyden from MIT on silicon quantum dots. Parth published 38 scientific papers in high-impact journals (> 2,000 citations), including two book chapters in Springer and two patents. Parth has 11 awards from the international research community. He obtained his PhD in Physical Chemistry from MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials & Nanotechnology, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

Ben Sturgeon Award

Rank Prize Fund
Dr. Anthony Lowe Award

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2024 SID Ben Sturgeon award is Darran Milne.

Darran has been a pioneer in advancing the commercial success of holographic displays in both augmented (AR) and mixed reality (MR) applications.  In 2017 he created the start-up company VividQ, to exploit the flexibility and efficiency of holographic displays after a period of working with the University of Cambridge Engineering Department as one of the supporting industrial partners, supervising Masters students. During this time, he worked on image compression algorithms for computer generated holography, and it was through this work he realised the real potential of holograms on the next generation of AR and MR displays.

SID UK and Ireland Chapter 2024 meeting and AGM

Thursday March 14th

SID UK & Ireland hosted an in-person one day meeting on novel display technologies and display applications in the automotive industry.

The meeting was at the Institute of Physics in London, close to Kings Cross St Pancras Station.  The meeting created a perfect opportunity to network in person with leaders in the field.

Speakers included: ARRIVAL EV, FlexEnable, VividQ, Microsoft, Kubos Semiconductors, UltraLeap, Swave Photonics, BrightView Technologies, Pro-Lite and PragmatIC.

A video of the event can be found here.  Thanks to Dominic Murphy for the video footage (dominic@dofilm.org +44 7715 639066).
