14 Papers Designated as Distinguished Papers for Display Week 2007 Symposium

With nearly 500 papers to be presented at the Display Week 2007 Symposium, it is very easy to feel a bit overwhelmed when trying to plan your visit to Long Beach. However, each year, show organizers make it just a little bit easier by picking the best of the best papers and bestowing upon them the title of "Distinguished Papers."

The Distinguished Papers have been chosen by the 2007 Technical Program Committee based on the originality and novelty of the work, the significance of the results, and the clarity and quality of the written summary that appears in the SID International Symposium Digest of Technical Papers.

For 2007, the Committee selected 14 such presentations as Distinguished Papers, including two student papers and one poster paper. They are as follows:

  • Paper 12.4: Student Paper: Passive-Matrix-Driven Field-Sequential-Color LCD

  • Paper 15.2: Assessment of Temporal Blur-Reduction Methods Using a Computational Observer that Predicts Human Performance

  • Paper 18.1: Novel TFT-LCD Technology for Motion-Blur Reduction Using 120-Hz Driving with Motion-Compensated Frame Interpolation (McFi)

  • Paper 31.1: FED Spacer Fabrication Using Nozzle Dispense

  • Paper 31.2: Student Paper: Ulta-Slim Barrier Ribs for PDPs by X-Ray-Lithography Process

  • Paper 32.4: Development of a Scalable Volumetric Three-Dimensional Up-Conversion Display Medium

  • Paper 37.2: Practical CNT-FED Structure for High-Luminance Character Displays

  • Paper 40.3: Nanoparticle-Embedded PDLC for Wide Viewing Angle and Specular Glare Suppression

  • Paper 44.2: Adaptive Contrast Enhancement for Digital Video

  • Paper 47.2: Structural Identification of Chemical Products and Mechanism of Operational Degradation of OLEDs

  • Paper 53.2: Novel Laser Transfer Technology for Manufacturing Large-Sized OLED Displays

  • Paper 63.2: A Full-Color Top-Emission AMOLED Display Driven by OTFTs

  • Paper 66.1: Deriving LED Driving Signal for Area-Adaptive LED Backlight in HDR Displays

  • Poster Paper P63: Effects of Glass Capacitance on the Performance of External-Electrode Fluorescent Lamps

In addition, there are 59 Invited Papers sprinkled throughout the 2007 Symposium Program. For more information on these papers, or to view the entire Symposium program, visit www.sid2007.org and click on the "Program" button.

2007 Business Conference & Investors Conference Programs Set

With the global display industry expected to surpass $100 billion in sales in 2007, this is the year to devote extra attention to the Business Conference and Investors Conference during Display Week. The programs for both of these vital components to Display Week have been set.

The Business Conference, which will take place Monday, May 21 and Tuesday, May 22, features a program chock full of display-industry heavyweights, including speakers from: Hewlett-Packard Co., Samsung Electronics LCD, Corning Inc., Lumileds Lighting U.S. LLC, Photon Dynamics, Qualcomm MEMS Technologies Inc, and Universal Display Corp., plus insight from market-research firms DisplaySearch, iSuppli and DisplayBank.

In addition to the presentations from industry leaders, the 2007 Business Conference includes several unique features, such as:

  • Sit-down luncheon with special speakers on Monday and Tuesday

  • An exclusive networking reception following the conclusion of the Monday talks

  • Admission to the SID 2007 Keynote Addresses on Tuesday

The luncheon on Tuesday serves as a bridge between the Business Conference and Investors Conference, which continues Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday, May 23. Co-sponsored by Cowen & Co. LLC, a securities and investment banking firm, this Conference will feature presentations from leading public and private display companies, intended to appeal primarily to securities analysts, portfolio managers, investors, mergers-and-acquisitions specialists, and display company executives.

Among the companies expected to present at the 2007 Investors Conference are: Bright View Technologies, Microvision, Cambridge Display Technologies, DisplayLink, eInk Corp., Uni-Pixel, Inc., Luminus Devices, Kopin Corp., Photon Dynamics, Novaled AG, Magink Display Technologies, Supertex Incorporated, Universal Display Corp., Microdisplay Corp., Novalux, Leadis, NueLight, PureDepth, Jaco Electronics, PlasticLogic, Applied Nanotech and Fusion Optix.

In addition, there will be keynote addresses both Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, a state-of-the-industry report from iSuppli Corp. on Wednesday morning, and a concluding Luncheon on Wednesday afternoon.

JSID Once Again Available in Print Form

The Journal of the Society for Information Display (JSID) is once again available in print form for all SID members who would prefer to receive it in that format. In January 2007, the first printed versions of JSID were mailed to SID members who subscribed to the printed service, containing the JSID volumes from the last three months of 2006.

For $10 per year, SID members will receive four quarterly installments that each will feature three months worth of JSID. This fee is less than 25% of the actual printing and mailing cost.

All SID members will continue to have access to JSID through the SID Web site, www.sid.org, for no charge. The electronic version is produced monthly and is posted on-line on or before the first day of each month.

This represents another step forward for JSID, following its recent addition to the prestigious Science Citation Index for cross-referencing.

For more information on JSID, visit www.sid.org and click on the JSID button in the center column.
