ADEAC 2006 Announces Preliminary Program

This major theme of the technical program at this year's Americas Display Engineering and Applications Conference (ADEAC 2006) is change. The ADEAC 2006 program, which was unveiled in early August, will explore significant changes in new application developments in areas including medical displays, large-area signage, virtual reality, 3-D, display interfaces, home theaters, and more.

Presented by SID in conjunction with the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), ADEAC 2006 will take place October 23-26, 2006, at the Crown Plaza Ravinia Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The technical sessions at ADEAC 2006 will feature 18 technical sessions over the course of three days:

Tuesday, October 24
Measurements and Standards; Military and Avionics Displays; Medical Displays; Military and Virtual Reality

Wednesday; October 25
Display and ID Control; Emerging Technologies; Panel and Mounting Standards; Video Interfaces I: Display Port; Kiosks and Gaming Displays; Video Interfaces II; Vision and Human Factors

Thursday; October 26
Stereoscopic and 3D Displays; Backlight Technology; Home Theaters and Projection Displays; Display Electronics and Image Processing; Display Signage/Large-Area Displays; Touch Panels and Enhancement Films.

To kick off the technical program, keynote lectures from Qualcomm MEMS Technology Senior Director Miles Kirby and Barco North America President Dave Scott will detail their experiences with completing the product-development puzzle. Kirby's presentation, "A Revolution in Display Technology: Enabling Next-Generation Wireless Communications," will discuss the need for displays to meet the ever-increasing demands of mobile devices. Scott will cover the differences between today's myriad display technologies-including LCD, plasma, LED, OLED and laser technologies-and explain the importance of choosing the right display for specific applications.

On Monday, October 23, a series of tutorial seminars will cover everything from market trends, to individual display technologies, to measurements and standards. These will include:

  • "Overview of Display Technologies" by consultant and plasma TV pioneer Larry Weber, President of SID
  • "How to Design an LC Display" by Dave Eccles of Eccles Engineering
  • "LED Backlights" by consultant Munisamy Anandan
  • "DisplayPort Product Development" by Alan Kobayashi of Genesis Microchip
  • "Test and Measurements" by Ed Kelly of the National Institute for Standards Technology (NIST)
  • "Mobile Displays" by Sen Yang of Motorola
  • "Projection Displays" by Tom Kimpe of BARCO
  • "Human Factors" by consultant Jim Larimer
