Only One Week Left to Register in Advance for SID 2006

This week is the last chance to register in advance for SID's premier event! The SID 2006 International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition will take place June 4-9 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, USA. The deadline for advance registrations for SID 2006 is May 19. By registering in advance, you'll not only save on registration fees, you'll also spend less time waiting in line once you arrive at the Moscone Center.

SID 2006 is the premier international gathering of scientists, engineers, manufacturers, marketers and users in the field of electronic-information displays. Here is a quick rundown of what you can expect at SID 2006:

  • The SID Symposium, June 6-9: A record 540 total papers-including 61 Invited Papers and 14 Distinguished Papers-will presented over four days by the top display experts in the world. These cover the entire gamut of the industry's hottest topics, including liquid-crystal displays (LCDs), organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), plasma-display panels (PDPs), field-emission displays (FEDs), backlights, flexible displays, and much more.

  • The 2006 Exhibition, June 6-8: This year's exhibition will be the largest in the 45-year-history of the SID Exhibition. As of May 12, an unprecedented 295 companies have signed up to exhibit at SID 2006, including more than 50 first-time exhibitors. Each day of the exhibition will also include the Exhibitors' Forum, during which 38 exhibiting companies will offer in-depth overviews of their products and services.

  • The SID Business Conference, June 5-6: Now in its fourth year, the Business Conference will feature talks from more than a dozen top industry executives representing companies such as International Display Corp., Intel Capital, the NPD Group, CRLO Displays Inc., iSuppli Corp., Philips Semiconductor, Display Bank, the Plasma Display Coalition, Enuclia Semiconductor Inc., Eastman Chemical Ltd., DuPont Displays Inc. and Corning Inc. In addition, two special discussions will supplement the 2006 Business Conference program. Mary Lou Jepsen, Chief Technology Officer of the One Laptop Per Child Nonprofit Association, will discuss the organization's goal of seeing $100 laptops manufactured using $35 displays and delivered to children in developing countries. And SID President and former Plasmaco President and CEO Larry Weber will debate Samsung Electronics LCD Business Vice President Brian Berkeley on the merits of LCD and plasma TVs in an attempt to settle the ongoing debate over which will rule the marketplace.

  • The SID Keynote Addresses, June 6: Kicking off the Symposium is an impressive roster of Keynote speakers. LG.Philips LCD Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales Bock Kwon will examine current and future market conditions for the TFT-LCD business. Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. Director of Advanced Technology Research Laboratories and Image Devices Development Center Dr. Takeshi Uenoyama will discuss the shift in the consumer display market to larger-sized and higher-definition TV over the past several years, with special attention to LCDs, PDPs, OLEDs and FEDs. Qualcomm Inc. Chief Executive Officer Dr. Paul E. Jacobs will explore how mobile devices must evolve past mere voice communication devices to meet the needs of increasingly graphic- and power-driven entertainment, computing, and information-access applications.

  • The SID Luncheon, June 7: This year's special luncheon speaker is Dr. Greg Olsen, who in 2005 became just the third private citizen to orbit the Earth aboard the International Space Station. Dr. Olsen, an entrepreneur and former researcher at RCA Labs, will thrill attendees with tales and images from his historic space voyage. In addition, the Luncheon will feature the presentation of the 11th Annual Display of the Year Awards.

Other highlights of SID 2006 include the Investors' Conference, Sunday Short Courses, Applications Tutorials, and Display Technology Seminars.

JSID Listed in Thomson's Science Citation Index Expanded

The Journal of the Society for Information Display (JSID) can now be found listed on Thomson Scientific's Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), a major subscribers-only index and database used heavily by universities and other academic institutions. JSID is now listed as a part of Thomson's ISI Web of Science®, which calculates an up-to-date Impact Factor for each publication listed in SCIE based on the number of citations. This is an accepted metric for gauging the importance of a publication and also of the individual papers published in it.

This is an important turning point for JSID, according to the Journal's Editor, Dr. Andras Lakatos, because many academic institutions around the world acknowledge or credit scientific publication records based exclusively on papers that appear in SCIE-listed publications. Therefore, JSID's listing in the SCIE should expand the Journal's reach to academic researchers who may have refrained from submitting manuscripts in the past when JSID was not listed, Lakatos said.

JSID is the only monthly scientific journal that is devoted 100 percent to the science and technology of displays and display-related developments in materials, electronics and imaging. It is published in full color and is available online at http://sid.aip.org/jsid.

For more information on Thomson's SCIE, visit http://www.isinet.com.

Help SID Boost Membership by Telling a Friend

Do you have friends or colleagues who should be a part of the Society for Information Display, but aren't? Now is the perfect time to get them to join. No one knows the many professional and technical benefits of SID better than our members, so the Society is inviting everyone to spread the word and recruit peers and coworkers through the Member-Get-A-Member (MGM) program. With your help, SID's membership and professional network will continue to grow for years to come.

As a token of the Society's appreciation for your participation in this year's MGM program, you'll receive an SID credit certificate good for $10. This can be used toward 2006 dues or SID products or services.

For more information on the Member-Get-A-Member program, visit www.sid.org/members/membergetmember.html.
