SID's Display Applications Conference
& Supplier Showcase
to Educate OEMs on State-of-the-Art Display Technologies
SAN JOSE, May 14 -- The worldwide market for
electronic-information displays is expected to top $155
billion in sales in 2007, according to the Consumer
Electronics Association, and the roster of display
technologies seems to be constantly expanding. The sheer size
and scope of the display industry has made decision-making for
engineers and managers at OEMs who incorporate displays into
their products-or are eager to do so-a daunting task.
That is why this fall, the Society for Information
Display (SID) is launching the Display Applications
Conference & Supplier Showcase. The event will take
place from Oct. 23-25, 2007 at the Marriott San Francisco
Airport Hotel in San Francisco, Calif., USA.
The Display Applications Conference is being developed
around the concept of offering OEMs a comprehensive overview
of the display market. Attendees at the conference will have
the opportunity to view this industry in totality, from the
broad differences in display technology platforms to the
nuances that can determine the ultimate success of a product,
according to Dr. Aris Silzars, who is chair of the
conference.
"Attendees at the Display Applications Conference will
learn everything they need to know to specify and design
displays for their products," Silzars stated. "The
emphasis throughout the conference will be on conveying
practical knowledge that can be put to immediate use in the
selection of technologies, products and vendors that best meet
specific display applications."
To that end, the conference will comprise 12 sessions that
will range in subject from the basics of how to select the
appropriate display for an electronics product, to in-depth
analysis of individual display technologies. All speakers will
be selected based on their expertise and extensive knowledge
of their subject matter.
The final program is still being put together, but the
session topics are as follows:
-
Day 1: How to Select and Evaluate Displays;
Emissive Displays; How to Buy LCDs; and Reflective
Displays
-
Day 2: LCD Tutorial; Projection Displays; LCD
Display Enhancements; Large Displays for Advertising,
Signage, and Entertainment Applications
-
Day 3: Display Electronics; Touch Panels;
System Integration and Interconnects; Emerging
Technologies and Future Directions
In addition to the sessions, an integral part of this
conference will be found in the exhibition hall, which will
feature exhibitors selected based on their ability to provide
attendees with immediately useful vendor contacts for displays
and the supporting components needed to design and integrate
display modules into their final products. An exclusive forum
near the exhibit area will allow exhibitors the chance to
present their latest technologies to attendees in more detail
than may be possible at their booths.
"What makes the Display Applications Conference so
noteworthy is that it will not only explore the various
display technology options now on the market, but will also
put attendees face-to-face with the display manufacturers,
allowing them to see the technology up close, and to
ultimately make deals for these products," Silzars said.
