Journal of the SID (JSID) Increases Visibility In Scientific Community
With New Listing In Thomson's Science Citation Index

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 23 - Effective April 1, the Journal of the Society for Information Display (JSID) can now be found listed on Thomson Scientific's Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), cementing JSID's reputation as the premier academic scientific-research and industrial technology-development journal in the field of electronic information displays.

The SCIE is a major subscribers-only index and database used heavily by universities and other academic institutions. Its Web of Science® section, which now includes JSID, lists approximately 8,700 of the world's most prestigious research publications. The database calculates an up-to-date Impact Factor for each publication listed on the SCIE based on the number of citations. This is an accepted metric for gauging the importance of a publication and of the papers published in it.

JSID's listing on SCIE marks an important turning point for the journal, according to JSID Editor Dr. Andras (Andy) Lakatos. Many institutions around the world acknowledge or credit scientific publication based solely on papers that appear in SCIE-listed publications, so JSID's listing in the SCIE should expand the Journal's reach to academic researchers who may have refrained from submitting papers in the past when JSID was not listed, Lakatos said.

"The listing of the Journal signifies that it is recognized worldwide as one of the premier archival scientific publications devoted exclusively to the science and technology of displays and to display-related material, electronics, imaging and applied visual science," Lakatos said. "It is expected that the gaining of this recognition from Thomson Scientific, together with the recently introduced monthly publication schedule, will significantly increase the number of papers submitted to the Journal, and correspondingly these steps will also increase the number of readers."

Beginning with Vol. 13 (1) 2005, JSID will be indexed and abstracted in the SCIE (also known as SciSerch®), Journal Citation Reports/Science Edition, Materials Science Citation Index®, Current Contents®/Physical Chemical and Earth Sciences, and Current Contents®/Engineering Computing and Technology.

JSID is the only monthly publication devoted 100 percent to the science and technology of displays and display-related developments in materials, electronics and imaging. It is published in full color and is available online at http://sid.aip.org/jsid. For more information on Thomson's SCIE, visit www.isinet.com.
