IDRC Returns to U.K. in September
with EuroDisplay 2005 in Historic Edinburgh, Scotland

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 18 - For the first time in almost a decade, the Society for Information Display's (SID) International Display Research Conference (IDRC) is heading back to the U.K. The 25th IDRC, the triennial EuroDisplay 2005, will take place Sept. 19-22, 2005 at the Edinburgh International Conference Center in Edinburgh, Scotland, and is expected to attract display-industry decision makers and engineers, plus consumers interested in display technology, from Asia, Europe and North America.

Beautiful Edinburgh, the Scottish capital, was named a World Heritage Site in 1995 and is one of the world's top tourist destinations, with its unique blend of Medieval and neoclassical charm. It is also within easy reach of some of the world's most famous and challenging golf courses, as well as many of Scotland's famous whisky distilleries.

"The IDRC's return to the U.K. this autumn affords the European display community an opportunity to interact with the leaders of the world display industry," said Conference Chair John Raines. "We have constructed a compelling event that should appeal to every portion of the display world, from engineers to consumers."

The conference will comprise three distinct segments:

Future Display Developments Workshop, Mon., Sept. 19
This one-day workshop is designed to discuss the future commercial and technical developments in four vital sectors of display technology: displays for mobile phones; large-screen TVs; OLEDs; and organic electronics. A total of 12 invited papers will be presented, and the list of speakers include: Jyrki Kimmel, Nokia Research Center, Tampere, Finland; Ross Young, DisplaySearch, Austin, Texas, USA; Greg Truman, CRLO Displays Ltd., Dalgety Bay, U.K.; Larry Weber, Consultant, New Paltz, NY, USA; Amal Ghosh, Eastman Kodak Co., Rochester, NY, USA; and Julie Brown, Universal Display Corp., Ewing, NJ, USA.

Each day of the Technical Conference will kick off with a Plenary/Keynote session; Prof. Sir Richard Friend of Cambridge University, U.K., one of the pioneers of organic-based displays, will deliver the initial talk on Tues., Sept. 20.

The preliminary program for the Technical Conference is available online at www.sid.org/conf/eurodisplay2005/program.pdf.
