SID '05 Exhibition Set to Be Biggest in
Event's History
Show Grows 15 Percent vs. 2004, 27 Percent vs. Last Boston
Show in 2002
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 14 - The Exhibition at The Society
for Information Display (SID) 2005 International Symposium,
Seminar and Exhibition is shaping up to be the biggest and
best in the 42-year history of the world's premier
information-display event. The exhibition will be open
Tuesday, May 24 through Thursday, May 26 on two floors of
Boston's Hynes Convention Center, and will encompass
approximately 54,000 square feet of the latest
state-of-the-art electronic information-display products and
services.
"No other event in the world offers its attendees the
comprehensive lineup of leading electronic-display companies
as SID does," explained SID President Shigeo Mikoshiba.
"Through the years, the exhibition at the SID Symposium
has been the primary place for these companies to introduce
their most innovative and exciting display products. SID '05
will continue to enhance that legacy."
Developments in large-screen TVs are sure to be among the
most exciting products shown at SID 2005, including
advancements in LCD (liquid crystal display), plasma and
projection TVs. All sectors of the
electronic-information-display industry will be showcased at
SID 2005, including: electronic paper and flexible displays;
3-D displays; OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes); touch
screens; display drivers and controllers; microdisplays;
display materials; display manufacturing equipment; display
components; test and measurement equipment; display glass;
optical coatings and films; backlights; and display
subsystems. Among the most eagerly anticipated products to be
displayed at SID 2005 will be:
-
Samsung Electronics Co. (Booth 1701) will, for
the first time in North America, show the world's
largest (82-in.) high-definition-quality TFT-LCD TV
display.
-
Philips Polymer Vision (Booth 2009) will unveil
a fully functional 4-grayscale rollable display with
smooth "paper-like" viewing, which is well
suited for reading large quantities of text and
information on the move. The device uses a bi-stable
electophoretic display effect developed by E Ink Corp.
(Booth 1628).
-
Panasonic Plasma Display Laboratory of America
(Booth 1512) will present its 65-in.
full-high-definition plasma television, the largest such
device available in wide release to the consumer
television market.
-
Kent Displays Inc. (Booth 1919) will be showing
a number of innovative displays utilizing its
Cholesteric LCD technology (ChLCD), including: the first
bistable ChLCDs featuring an SPI interface; and
plastic-based ChLCDs that can be produced in volume via
a roll-to-roll process.
Exhibit space at SID 2005 is nearly sold out, reported Kate
Dickie, exhibit sales manager for Palisades Convention
Management Inc. (PCM), the show's manager. At an estimated
54,000 square feet, SID 2005 will be approximately 15 percent
larger than the 2004 show in Seattle, and has grown nearly 27
percent since the most recent Boston show in 2002. As of April
13, 239 companies from 13 countries have contracted to exhibit
at SID 2005, including 43 first-time exhibitors. A complete
list of exhibitors, along with an interactive floor plan of
the exhibition hall at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston,
is available at http://events.pcm411.com/shows/sid05.
This site utilizes cutting-edge Expocad VR2
software to enable attendees to plan their time at SID 2005
effectively.
The exhibition will also feature two international
pavilions. The German Pavilion, sponsored by the German
Federal Ministry of Economy and organized by the German Flat
Panel Display Forum (DFF), returns for its second year and
will feature 12 companies from the German flat-panel-display (FPD)
industry. Seven companies from the South Korean display
industry will comprise the inaugural Korean Pavilion.
Some 36 companies will participate in the Exhibitors' Forum
from Tuesday, May 24 through Thursday, May 26. These companies
will deliver 15-minute presentations offering greater detail
of their products. Visit www.sid.org/conf/sid2005/exhibition/exhibitorforum.html
for the complete listing of participating companies.
"The continued growth of the exhibition at the annual
SID Symposium is a testament to the strength of the
international electronic-information-display market,"
Mikoshiba stated. "Combined with the expansion of the
Technical Symposium from three to four days, the expansion of
the Business Conference to two days, and the launching of the
Investors Conference, SID 2005 will be the most comprehensive
and exciting event that SID has ever organized."
The 43rd SID International Symposium, Seminar
and Exhibition will take place Sunday, May 22 through Friday,
May 27, 2005 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. It is
the premier international gathering of scientists, engineers,
manufacturers and users in the field of electronic-information
displays. For exhibitor information, contact Kate Dickie,
