Strong Support from Local Display
Community
Leads ADEAC to Portland, Oregon, in October
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 18 - In an effort to support the
strong display community in the Pacific Northwest, The Society
for Information Display (SID) has decided to locate its
second-annual Americas Display Engineering and Applications
Conference (ADEAC) in Portland, Oregon, from Oct. 24-27, 2005.
Organized by SID and co-sponsored by the Video Electronics
Standards Association (VESA), ADEAC is the premier event for
practical, up-to-date display technology that addresses real
applications and engineering issues for display products and
end-user systems of interest to North American companies in
fields such as avionics, communications, digital TV, dynamic
signage, instrumentation, medical, point-of-purchase, and
projection displays. The conference is designed to appeal to
both current display practitioners and those who may not have
much experience in the industry. Attendees will learn about
the rapid changes in display technology, display electronics
and components; the latest display interface standards
established by VESA; procedures for selecting the appropriate
display device for specific applications; and the integration
of displays into cost-effective end-user systems.
"ADEAC is about the here and now of display
technology," explained Stephen Atwood, SID's ADEAC
Conference Chair. "Attendees will find practical,
nuts-and-bolts solutions that will immediately help them
develop products utilizing displays to meet the specific needs
of end users. That is what makes ADEAC such a critical event
for designers, developers, product managers, marketing
directors, purchasing managers, and anyone else with an
interest in display applications and technology."
Such characteristics made ADEAC attractive to the Oregon
Economic and Community Development Department (OECDD) and the
16-company Oregon Display Systems Consortium. According to Amy
Keiter, business development officer for the OECDD, the strong
cluster of display-related companies in Oregon's "Silicon
Forest" made Portland a natural fit to host ADEAC. The
strong desire by members of the Display Consortium to
participate in the conference helped seal the deal to bring
ADEAC to Portland.
"Oregon's display industry has the critical mass to
make ADEAC a vibrant and compelling event," Keiter added.
"ADEAC will give our local display-related businesses a
showcase for their technologies and talent, and will bolster
our reputation as a locus of display technology."
VESA got involved in ADEAC 2005 after members of its board
of directors noticed similarities between ADEAC and VESA's
annual Display Interfaces conference. Discussions between VESA
and ADEAC organizers led to an agreement to combine the two
conferences under the ADEAC title for 2005.
"Combining the two events will allow display personnel
to attend just one conference and get all the required
information to develop a product," explained VESA Chair
Ian Miller.
VESA is organizing one track and two seminars at ADEAC
2005. These will focus on standards regarding sectors like
interfaces, remote adjustment of displays, plug-and-play, LCD
modules, and mechanical mounting of flat-panel displays.
With the support of VESA and the Oregon Display Systems
Consortium, organizers are confident that ADEAC 2005 will
attract in excess of 500 attendees and as many as 60
exhibiting companies.
"Together, we can make a very powerful team bringing
the best of applications and practical display technology
together for our attendees," Atwood noted.
