San Jose, California, July 15 - With the First Americas Display Engineering and Applications Conference (ADEAC '04) - to be held October 25-27 at the Doral Tesoro Hotel & Golf Club in Fort Worth, Texas - the Society for Information Display is breaking new ground. This is a conference for designers, product managers, and marketers who develop display-containing products for a wide variety of applications.

The industry is supporting ADEAC enthusiastically. Keynote addresses will be given by John Van Scoter (Vice President, Texas Instruments), who is in charge of TI's DLP™ program, and Nikhil Balram (Chief Technology Officer, National Semiconductor), who is responsible for development of advanced ICs and chip-sets for displays. Van Scoter's address is DLP™ Technology: Innovating and Differentiating in a Competitive Landscape; Balram's is Digital TV Electronics: Major Advances Bringing the Cinema Experience into Your Home

A rich program of tutorials and technical sessions is designed to help professionals evaluate display technologies, find the best display for their system, and integrate that display reliably and cost-effectively, said Program Chair Stephen Atwood (Three Five Systems). Among the tutorials are:

  • Overview and Design of Handheld Displays,

  • Designing Projector Products,

  • Managing Color Performance in LCD Products,

  • Graphic and Video Electronics, and

  • Designing an LCD-based Product.

The 14 sessions of oral technical presentations include Digital TV Systems, Backlight Technology, Graphic Conversions and Digital Interfaces, Technologies for Portable Devices, Military and Avionic Displays, Projection Display Systems, and Digital Signage.

An evening session, Making a Digital TV Consumers Will Buy; will feature a panel of distinguished display designers, marketers, product managers, and electronics retailers, who will address all aspects of this multi-billion-dollar challenge, and answer your questions. Among the panelists will be plasma-display pioneer Larry Weber, Gary Feather ( Director, Digital AV Systems, Sharp Laboratories of America), Tom Edwards (SVP, Consumer Electronics, Pacific Media Associates), Brian Patrick (Director of Audio-Visual Design, EDI Ltd.), Hugo Steemers (Director of Strategic Marketing, National Semiconductor), and moderator Ken Werner (Editor, Information Display).

ADEAC will provide information on the displays that are available to OEMs and product designers, on display-device manufacturers, the characteristics of different displays, procedures for selecting the best display device for any application, and the display electronics and components available to OEMs and product designers. An exhibition will bring attendees face to face with suppliers of displays, electronics, interconnects, packaging, and test equipment.
