International

Topical Session on Electronic Paper
September 8, 2003
– The 10th International Display Workshops (IDW) will be held
December 3-5 at the new Fukuoka International Congress Center in
Fukuoka. The city sits on the north coast of Kyushu, the most
southerly of Japan’s major islands, on scenic Hakata Bay. The
Workshops, sponsored by the Society for Information Display
(SID) and the Institute of Image Information and Television
Engineers (ITE), constitute one of the major international
display technology conferences on the annual calendar.
Kyushu Island has
recently been named Japan’s "PDP Island." In terms
of business, culture, and industry, Fukuoka is the most active
city in Western Japan. The city, having served as a gateway for
the importing of continental Asian cultures into Japan since
ancient times, has a rich cultural and architectural tradition.
In 2000, Asia Week rated Fukuoka as the city with the best
quality of life in Asia.
The Workshops’
Keynote Address will be Industrial Applications of Carbon
Nanotubes by S. Iijima (Meijo Univ., NEC, AIST and JST/SORST).
Among the major invited addresses will be:
The technical

Displays; 3D/Hyper-Realistic Displays and Systems; Applied
Vision and Human Factors; and Projection and Large-Area

special Topical Session on Electronic Paper covering electronic
paper, paper-like displays, and rewritable paper. The
presentations in the session will cover concepts, hardware,
software, materials, human interfaces, systems, applications,
and overviews.
A banquet and
reception will encourage conversation and networking; and there
will be an exhibition of display devices, materials, components,
manufacturing and measuring equipment, and related products for
display devices. The exhibitions at IDW tend to be informal, and
discussions at exhibitors’ booths are encouraged.
