IDMC Moves to
Taipei for 2003
Organizers
Anticipate Major Expansion of Conference Scope and Size of
Exhibition
November 14, 2002
- The International Display Manufacturing Conference (IDMC),
which has been held successfully in Seoul, Korea since its
inception in September 2000 will move to Taipei, Taiwan for its
third running. IDMC '03 will be held at the Taipei International
Convention Center (TICC), February 18-21, 2003, in conjunction
with FPD Expo Taiwan 2003, which will be held February 20-22.
Last May, FPD Expo Taiwan 2002, which was co-sponsored by SEMI
Southeast Asia and the SID Taipei Chapter, drew 123 exhibitors
and nearly 5000 attendees without the support of an
international conference. Now, with IDMC and FPD Expo Taiwan
running as components of a single coordinated event, the
organizers expect to do far better than when the two events ran
separately. IDMC '03 is organized by the Taipei Chapter of the
Society for Information Display (SID); FPD Expo Taiwan 2003 is
organized by SEMI Southeast Asia.
Speaking for the
organizing committee, Han-Ping D. Shieh (National Chiao Tung
University) said that IDMC '03 will expand the scope of the
previous two IDMCs. "By having a three-day technical
symposium and a one-day workshop covering PDP, LTPS, OLED, and
projection in parallel with a major display exhibition, the
event shall provide the display community with the best
opportunity to gather, discuss, and observe the current status
and prospect of manufacturing technologies. Furthermore, IDMC
'03 will have special dedicated sessions to address key issues
in display device manufacturing and application - environment,
health, and safety (EHS)."
IDMC '03 will
begin on Tuesday February 18 with a day of three-hour workshops
covering OLEDs (presented by Stephen R. Forrest, Princeton
Univ.); liquid-crystal materials and displays (Gregory Crawford,
Brown Univ.); microdisplay projection systems (Matthew
Brennesholtz, Philips LCoS); a technical discussion of Pioneer's
innovative, world-class PDPs (Toshihiro Komaki, Pioneer Corp.);
and LTPS TFTs (Makoto Ohkura).
The main program
will begin on Wednesday February 19 with keynote addresses by K.
Y. Lee (AU Optronics Corp., Taiwan) and Yen Shiang Shih (Taiwan
Ministry of Economic Affairs) on aspects of the future of image
displays and their importance to industrial development. A third
keynote address, OLED Perspective, will be presented by Ching
Tang (Kodak), one of the inventors of organic
light-emitting-diode displays. Following the keynotes will be a
full program of contributed technical papers plus 80 invited
papers. Optional visits to leading Taiwan display manufacturers
are free to registrants but must be booked in advance because of
limited capacity.
