Hornbeck to
Reveal Secrets of TI's Microdisplay Success in SID International
MicroDisplay Conference Keynote Address
August 13 - The
Third International Conference on Microdisplays, being held
September 18-20, 2002 at the Westin Hotel, Westminster,
Colorado, will open with a Keynote Address by Dr. Larry Hornbeck,
TI Fellow and winner of an Emmy Award for his contributions to
digital cinema.
Dr. Hornbeck's
address will be titled >From little mirrors to big images
- How Texas Instruments Achieved Broad Commercial Success with
Its DLP™ Technology. This will be the first time Dr.
Hornbeck has shared his broad perspective and experience on the
elements that made up Texas Instruments' experience in
successfully bringing an entirely new type of technology to the
market. The presentation will be particularly important in light
of the many other microdisplay technologies currently pushing
toward commercial viability.
Following the
Keynote Address will be a broad technical program including
contributions on display systems, device technologies, and
advances in manufacturing and test methodologies. The program
will cover evolving device technologies and the development of
MicroDisplay-based products and applications, and will include
insightful analyses from some of the leading market analysts in
the display industry. An exhibition from leading developers and
an evening panel will round out the three-day event.
The interest in
MicroDisplay products for personal use, home entertainment, and
large-audience venues is rapidly evolving - and offers enormous
market potential. The conference will seek to bring together the
entire MicroDisplay community to discuss the latest developments
and to identify the challenges ahead. The goal is to establish a
workshop atmosphere that facilitates open discussion, as well as
providing a forum for product exhibition and industry
networking.
Market
perspectives will be provided by Dr. Kimberly Allen from
Stanford Resources/iSuppli, Mr. Chuck McLaughin from the
McLaughlin Consulting Group, and Mr. Chris Chinnock from Insight
Media.
Companies
supporting the conference with their generous sponsorship
include Three Five Systems, Inc., Displaytech Inc., Philips
Components, Silicon Bandwidth Inc., DCI Acquisition Corp. dba
DisplayCheck, and Westar Display Technologies, Inc.
Complete
information on registration and hotels, and a preliminary agenda
can be found on the SID website at http://www.sid.org/conf/microdisplay2002/microdisplay2002.html.
"The conference is intended for all technical and
non-technical professionals working in the display industry with
an interest in the MicroDisplay segment," said Conference
Program Chair Stephen Atwood (DisplayCheck). "This will be
the most focused and comprehensive MicroDisplay industry
gathering and networking opportunity of the year."
"The
Microdisplay Industry is just now coming into its own,"
said David Lowe, Conference General Chair (Silicon Bandwidth).
"The complete set of exciting microdisplay technologies
such as high temperature polysilicon (HTPS), Digital Light
Processing (DLP™), and liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) will
be represented at this conference. Products are now on the
market and the next few years will definitely be exhilarating
ones for the entire value chain."
