The Eighth Color Imaging Conference Returns to Scottsdale
July 28, 2000
-- The annual Color Imaging Conference (CIC) is the worlds premier technical conference for people working in the areas of color science
and color engineering, and those who apply these disciplines to color products and color imaging technologies such as digital photography, image
processing, color display design, data visualization, and image processing. For the eighth year in a row, the conference will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona,
this year from November 7 to 10 at The SunBurst Resort Hotel. CIC8 is sponsored by the Society for Information Display (SID) and the Society for
Imaging Science & Technology (IS&T).
The event kicks off with a day of tutorials and how-to workshops. The eleven planned tutorials include Color in Hardcopy and Displays, Internet and Web
Color, and Digital Photography. Among the four planned how-to workshops are Writing Photoshop Plug-ins and Understanding PDF and PostScript.
Beginning Wednesday, November 8, there are three days of invited and contributed presentations again organized in a single track to encourage broad
participation and discussion. Each of these three days begins with an hour-long keynote address. The keynotes are:
-
Color Spaces (Jan Koenderink, Helmholtz Institut)
-
Shopping on the Web without Seeing Red (Robert W. G. Hunt, Color Consultant)
-
Chromatic Variation; A Fundamental Property of Images (Steve Shevell, University of Chicago)
Thursday afternoon will be devoted to the poster session. The 27 poster
presentations will include:

A Mathematical Model for Inkjet Printer Characterisation (Peter Roberts, Canon Information Systems Research Australia)
-
Digital Restoration of Faded Color Movies: A Four-step Method (Geoffrey G. Attridge and others, University of Westminster)
-
Comparison of Camera Quality Indexes (Po-Chieh Hung, Konica Corp.)
-
Automatic Image Classification Using Pictorial Features (Raimondo Schettini and others, ST Microelectronics TPA Group)
-
An Assessment Standard for the Evaluation of Display Measurement Capabilities (John Libert and others, NIST)
-
A Novel Digital Color Printer Based on Silicon Microdisplay (K.C. Lee and others, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology)
The color imaging conference has become the leading event where color issues and applications are discussed by people from around the world typically
over 300 people from Europe, Asia, and North America and the conference is organized with many opportunities for conversation and informal
communication. Immediately following CIC8, the CIE Color Experts meeting will be held on Saturday, November 11.
