Sharp Develops 4.3-in. Industrial-Grade LCD for Mobile Applications

CAMAS, Wash. - Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas introduced a 4.3-in. industrial-grade liquid-crystal display (LCD) designed for mobile and portable-use applications on April 25. The LQ043T1DG01 is a highly integrated display with touch panel to complement handheld- and portable-device design. It also delivers superior performance in brightness and contrast, operates over a broad temperature range, and features a wide viewing angle, all while conserving power, Sharp said.

The display offers 16 million colors, a 16:9 aspect ratio, high brightness of 500 nits and a viewing cone of 120° (H) x 100° (V) in 480 (H) x 272 (V) pixels. According to the company, its LQ043T1DG01 is an excellent fit for applications in challenging industrial and handheld environments and high-ambient-light conditions, and its high level of integration means a lower parts count. Typical applications include PDAs, portable medical equipment, GPS/navigation, home automation control, test and measurement equipment, fish finders, and security systems.

"This display reinforces Sharp's technological leadership and provides designers with a great choice when choosing a display for demanding applications," Sriram Peruvemba, Senior Manager of Product Marketing at Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas, stated in a press release. "It raises the standard in 4.3-in. display performance."

As an industrial performance part, the LQ043T1DG01 is designed and tested to meet demanding environments by providing wide operating temperatures, high brightness, and a wide viewing angle. The display features an integrated touch panel and a standard thing-film transistor (TFT) interface (no ASIC or GSIC required).

"The 4.3-inch display is tested to the full range of its specifications so Sharp can ensure that it operates properly to the edges of those specifications," explained Peruvemba, "This display truly rises above the current class of commodity-grade parts and provides an industry-leading solution."
