CMO to Enter 26-, 52-in. LCD Panel
Markets
TAINAN COUNTY, Taiwan - Liquid-crystal display (LCD) giant Chi
Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) will add 26- and 52-in.
panels to its line of liquid-crystal-display (LCD) TVs,
according to a July report in the Taiwanese news service, DigiTimes.
Development on the 26-in. panels based on twisted nematic
(TN) technology will begin in the third quarter of this year,
with volume production scheduled for Q4. The 52-in. panels
will launch by the first half of 2007, CMO told DigiTimes.
The company's line of LCDs already includes 20-, 20.1-,
27-, 32-, 37-, 42-, and 47-in. models, as well as a recently
announced 56-in. Quad Full High Definition (QFHD) model, which
is expected to enter volume production in Q3 of 2006.
CMO added that in Q1 2007, it will begin production on new
47-in. LCD TV panels that will deliver faster response time
and higher contrast ratio. It is also aiming to upgrade its
32-in. panels by increasing the contrast ratio from 1200:1 to
1500:1 during the second half of 2006.
Ness Display to Produce 1.5- and 1.8-in.
OLED Panels
Singapore - Ness
Display in late June told the EE Times Asia
that it has developed a 1.5-in. organic light-emitting-diode (OLED)
display with increased brightness and higher resolution at its
R&D branch in Korea. The panels are now in production at
the company's manufacturing plant in Singapore, which has
expanded from producing 1-in. OLED panels and will soon make
1.8-in. models as well, according to the EE Times report.
The displays are intended for use in products such as
mobile phones, MP3 players and digital cameras.
"More products like mobile phones and even car audio
systems that require larger display screens will benefit from
the advantages that OLED has over traditional display
technology," Ness CEO Kim Myung Jin told the magazine.
"I expect the 1.5-in. display panel and the 1.8-in.
display panel, which will be launched next year4, to soon
replace the LCD in next-generation flat-panel displays for
most consumer electronic appliances. I am confident that Ness
Display will expand even further with the expected increase in
demand for OLED display panels worldwide as OLED technology
improves and more applications become available."
