RCA Introduces Standard-Definition,
CRT-Based, Digital TV
Indianapolis, Indiana, October 11 -
Recognizing that high prices and confusion have deterred many
consumers from investing in new technologies, TTE Corporation
has decided to deliver affordable digital television products,
as well as the information consumers need to better understand
DTV's benefits. Today, the company introduced a new digital
27-inch RCA brand Standard Definition Television (SDTV) set,
with built-in over-the-air tuners/decoders for reception of
digital and analog TV broadcasts, along with a revamped
television web site designed to help consumers make the
transition from analog (NTSC) television.

'With a suggested retail price of $359, the
new SDTV set (Model RCA 27F634T) will bring local over-the-air
terrestrial digital broadcasts to a wider consumer audience.
The SDTV set can receive digital and HD broadcasts with an
antenna, and delivers a clear, crisp DVD-quality picture. The
SDTV set is now available at a national retailer.
"SDTV offers a truly affordable
introduction to digital technology for the consumer. While
HDTV is obviously the ultimate television experience, the
associated cost can be prohibitive for many," stated Greg
Bosler, Executive Vice President, TTE. "We believe that
across the country, many television viewers are anxious to
enter the digital TV world and this SDTV set is the perfect
point of entry," he added.
Other features of this television include:
-
TruFlatTM Picture Tube. Reduces
peripheral screen reflections and glare by more than 60
percent compared to standard tube and offers wider
viewing angle.
-
Flexible Inputs. Inputs located on
both the side and rear of the set allow for the simple
connection of digital cameras, video games, DVD players,
or satellite receivers.
-
Electronic On-Screen Notepad and
Calendar. Provides on-screen message reminder that can
be programmed for a specific time or for when the TV is
powered on.
