LG.Philips LCD Introduces 100-in. LCD
Panel, the Largest in the World
SEOUL, South Korea - LG.Philips
LCD announced on March 8 it has developed the largest
thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal-display (TFT-LCD) panel in
the world, measuring 100 ins. The largest available TFT-LCD
panel had been 82 inches, and LG.Philips LCD said its new
100-in. panel is 1.5 times larger than the 82-in. panels.
At more than 2.2 meters in height and 1.2
meters in width, the 100-in. panel rivals the size of the
largest plasma display televisions currently available.
LG.Philips LCD developed the panel at its
P7 seventh-generation substrate facility in Paju, South Korea,
which it states is the world's largest seventh generation
substrate size (1950 x 2250mm) fabrication line.
The panel offers high-definition picture
quality without distorting the video signals thanks to
LG.Philips LCD's proprietary copper-based interconnect
technology, which has low electrical resistance and enables
transmission of video signals across an entire large-area LCD
screen without noise. The wide-screen (16:9) panel features a
response speed below 5ms, offers 6.22 million-pixels and full
high-definition (HD) grade picture quality, and can reproduce
1.07 billion colors. The panel also offers a maximum 3000:1
contrast ratio, color reproduction of 92 percent, and an
omni-directional, 180-degree viewing angle based on Super IPS
and super-large compensation film technologies.
"Technological advances for large-area
LCD TVs, such as the 100-in. LCD, will act as a catalyst that
accelerates customer demand for high picture quality and large
screens," Sang Deog Yeo, LG.Philips LCD's Executive Vice
President for Development Center, said in a press release.

China, according to Corning.
The company is currently considering several locations for
the plant and has not disclosed the amount of funding for the
