Extreme Photonix Ceases Display
Development Activities
Cincinnati, Ohio Sept. 15 - Extreme Photonix, a technology
development company, announced today that it will cease
display development activities.
Founded in 2000, Extreme Photonix has developed a broad
technology and intellectual property portfolio in
electroluminescent and electrowetting displays. As reported at
the 2005 Society for Information Display Symposium, Extreme
Photonix electrowetting light valves have demonstrated
approximately 10 times higher optical transmissivity
than state-of-the art liquid-crystal displays.
Despite strong technical gains, president Andrew Steckl
explains "Even compelling technology and a sound business
plan are a hard sell if you are a small U.S. display startup
company who is 5-plus years from market. We have decided to
revert to a pure license mode instead of internal display
product development. Research on
electrowetting and lightwave-coupled devices is continuing at
the University of Cincinnati." Key display patents may be
licensed through the University
of Cincinnati.
