Forum to Explore Networked Digital Displays and In-Store TV
Norwell, Massachusetts, January 25 - CAP Ventures today announced its upcoming forum, "Narrowcasting in Public Spaces: A New Medium for Retail and Out-of-Home
Advertising," coming April 17, just prior to GlobalShop. The forum focuses on networked
digital displays and in-store TV (narrowcasting).
"Narrowcasting technologies and networks are changing how brand managers and retailers can reach and interact with customers. This new channel arrives at an opportune time as the effectiveness of traditional broadcast TV advertising continues to erode," said Norman McLeod, Director of CAP Ventures.
Retailers, brand marketers and advertising executives are facing critical
decisions on implementing and utilizing networked digital displays and
in-store television systems. To tap into this powerful medium, they need
to choose from an array of display technologies, network and systems
vendors, business models, and content partners.
The forum will include presentations from industry leaders Clarity Visual
Systems, Electrograph Systems, Scala, and Transvision. There will also be discussion panels on network operation, display technology, and control technologies; a pesentation from CAP Ventures on its research study on narrowcasting; and a dedicated exhibit area that will allow attendees to network with vendors and view new products and services.
The forum will be held on April 17, 2002, at the Hyatt Regency McCormick
Place, in Chicago, Illinois.

Dynamics Reports First Quarter Results For Fiscal 2002
San Jose, California, January 16 - In reporting, as part of its financial results for the the first quarter of fiscal 2002, that its quarterly revenue was $14.2 million, a decrease of 41 percent from the $23.9 million of the first quarter in fiscal 2001, and that its net loss for Q1 fiscal 02 was $3.4 million, Photon Dynamics was still able to find a silver lining that may buoy the spirits of others in the display industry.
The test-and-repair-equipment company's bookings for Q1 fiscal 02 improved to $14.7 million, the third consecutive quarterly increase, and the company posted a backlog of approximately $32 million at the end of the fiscal quarter. Book to bill, driven mostly by the flat-panel-display (FPD) business, finally returned to better than 1.0 for the first time in 6 quarters, a company statement said. "Based on recent announcements by LCD manufactures regarding their capacity investment plans, we are…optimistic about growth in the FPD industry," stated Mr. Vincent Sollitto, President and CEO of Photon Dynamics, Inc.
