FPD
Technologies Announces Fluorescent/LCD Display
Westlake Village, California,
September 26, 2000 -- FPD Technologies, LLC today announced
a working prototype of a flat-panel display that combines
fluorescent materials with a conventional liquid-crystal
display.
The prototype replaces the color matrix filter of a
traditional LCD with a patterned array of fluorescent
materials to produce the RGB subpixels. Rather than block
light that’s of the wrong wavelength at each subpixel, the
FPD device converts the wavelength of the light to form the
required color. This design is intended to produce bright
images with less energy, said Edward J. A. Pope, chairman
and chief executive officer.
