Engineering Project Manager - Industrial Business Unit

Job Summary

The IBU Engineering Project Manager will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams in the successful completion of significant projects, including:

  • Development of new, customer-valued display subsystems

  • Product design ownership from concept through end of life

  • Design maintenance and upgrade development of current products

  • Vigorous and expeditious remedy of customer issues related to product design

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with potential and current customers in the pursuit and maintenance of customers and products.

  • Assumes full responsibility for creating, implementing and executing, to successful conclusion, engineering projects (both product development and sustaining) using Planar's project management guidelines.

  • Coordinates and leads design efforts with on-shore and Asian partners to ensure cost, schedule and performance requirements are accomplished.

  • Coordinates efforts among all applicable functional groups in the remedy of technical issues regarding perceived and real product deficiencies to the customers' satisfaction.

  • Accepts primary responsibility for the remedy of routine technical impediments to project success and adherence to the committed project plan.

  • Ensures the development or maintenance of a product adheres to the requirements of all applicable standards and processes including, but not limited, to ISO, Planar's Project Management Guidelines and Planar's Product Life Cycle (PLC).

  • Coordinates effectively with other functional groups within Planar (Sales, Operations, Quality, Service, Supply Chain and Finance) to ensure that all activities required for the successful production release of the product are met.

  • Acts in a manner that evidences full commitment to the IBU strategy, Planar's strategic priorities, Planar's LAMP system, Planar's values and Planar's brand characteristics in action.

  • May function, from time to time, in a "hands-on" mode, executing design and/or verification test tasks.

  • May provide timely financial inputs related to the project, including cost tracking and cost-to-complete estimation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience successfully leading engineering projects in the electronics industry required. Preference for experience and knowledge of display products used in demanding environmental applications.
  • Knowledge and experience with manufacturing processes associated with display fabrication desired.
  • Demonstrated superior communications skills, both verbal and written, required.
  • Proven ability to develop detailed Engineering project plans in conjunction with internal and external customers required.
  • Proven ability to build and motivate a team required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects involving electronics and packaging, and firmware design, development, verification and validation required.
  • Basic knowledge of the performance and certification requirements of industrial products desired.
  • Travel, both domestic and international, will be required.
