 Curriculum Vitae:

Yakovenko Sergei Yevgenievich

Yakovenko Sergei Yevgenievich received his M.S. in Optics from the Belarusian State University in 1980 and joined Institute of Applied Physics Problems as a Research Staff Member specializing in the spectroscopy of liquid crystals. In 1985 he received his Ph.D. degree in Optics and in 1999 Dr. of Science from the Belorussian State University.

The main field of his activities is development of new electro-optic effects for liquid crystal displays and other electro-optic devices. During his work in the Institute of Applied Physics Problems he worked on technology for producing LCD's with precise gap formation, such as reflective STN, ferroelectric and anti-ferroelectric displays, which are rigid and not sensitive to the quality of glass plates. He participated in development of liquid crystal on silicon valves for time sequential projection displays and design of fast-switching modulators for eye protection during welding. One of his most successful results with the group of researchers he headed was original design and technology for making multi-domain liquid crystal displays, which substantially improved display viewing angles.

In 2000 he joined LCOS Development at Philips Components. Since 2001 he heads Cell and panel development group at Philips Components, LCOS Projection business unit, leading development of LCOS imagers for rear projection TV.

Results of his R&D work are published in more than 80 articles, presented at many international conferences. He is author and co-author of 12 patents. S. Yakovenko was one of the first researchers from Belarus who joined the SID. Within the initiative group, he participated in formation of Belarusian Chapter of SID. Since that time he has served as Chapter Secretary, Treasurer and Chairman.
