Kalluri Sarma
Prof. K. R. Sarma obtained the Bachelor of
Technology (Honours) in Electronics and Communication
Engineering and Master of Technology in UHF and Microwave
Engineering in 1957 and 1958 respectively from Indian
Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India. He received a Ph.D.
in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, Ithaca, USA
in 1961.
He joined the department of Electrical
Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1961
and taught various subjects and guided many Masters and Ph.D.
theses in Communication, Electronics and Instrumentation.
During 1968-69, he taught at Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, Cambridge, USA. Dr. Sarma also served as Head,
Electrical Engineering and Dean of Research and Development at
IIT Kanpur.
During 1988-1991, he was Adviser,
Department of Science and Technology, Government of India
directing the National Instrumentation Programme. From 1991 to
1997 he was Director, Central Scientific Instruments
Organisation, a National Laboratory under Government of India
specializing in Instrumentation. During this period, he
successfully led a team to develop Head's-Up-Display for Light
Combat Aircraft. Since 1997 he has been serving as Adviser
Technology to Samtel Group of Companies, the largest Picture
Tube manufacturer in India leading the R&D in CRTs and
Flat Panel Technologies.
