John W. Parker III
Director, Delaware Valley Chapter
John W. Parker III received his B.S. Degree in Mechanical
Engineering at Drexel Institute of Technology and received his
Master's Degree in Engineering Science from Penn State
University.
Mr. Parker has been an active member of SID for the past 26
years, with the Delaware Valley Chapter as Director for the
past 11 years, as Chairman for three terms and also three
terms as Vice Chairman, as well as being a key organizer for a
SID seminar in Philadelphia. He has also served as Membership
Chairman of SID for two years. In addition Mr. Parker has
served on the paper selection committee for the annual SID
symposium for the past six years. This year he is also serving
on the Americas Director Nomination Committee.
Mr. Parker is retired from the Naval Air Warfare Center,
Patuxent River, MD, and was a member of the tri-service
aircraft lighting panel under the sponsorship of the JACB. He
served as Technical Advisor in all areas of aircraft,
displays, lighting, and human interfaces, in particular the
electro-optical characteristics and their interactions. Prior
to this assignment, he was with the Naval Air Systems Command
in Washington, DC, as Project Engineer, Aircraft Displays
& Lighting Systems. He was a member of the tri-service
display group under the sponsorship of ONR. He provided
technical input in the areas of display electro-optical
performance and their interaction with other electro-optical
devices such as night vision imaging systems, laser eye
protection, etc. Mr. Parker is regarded as a technical expert
throughout the world in the electro-optical characteristics of
night vision systems and their related equipments.
Mr. Parker is now a consultant to the Navy Department
working with Research and Engineering Development, Inc. on a
part-time basis. He also operates the Pennsylvania Office of
the same firm. In this capacity he continues to work in
various aspects of military display design and night vision
programs.
