Dr. Anthony C. Lowe
Tony
Lowe is the Founder and Principal of Lambent.
He holds a BSc in chemistry and a PhD in interfacial
thermodynamics, both from Southampton University. He is a
Fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers and a
Chartered Engineer.
During a 29-year career with IBM in the UK and the USA he
held senior technical and managerial positions covering a
range of activities from basic research to product development
mainly in the field of displays but also in materials, data
storage and circuit technology. In 1996, on returning from his
last US assignment to IBM Research Division, he became
worldwide flat monitor product development manager at IBM
Greenock. He was also a member of the IBM Academy of
Technology and a Corporate Senior Technical Staff
Member.
He has been actively involved with the Society for
Information Display for many years and after becoming Director
of the UK & Ireland chapter, he became the Society's first
Regional Vice-President for Europe and from 1998-2000 was SID
worldwide President, the first non-US incumbent of this
office.
For more than fifteen years, he has been involved in
display matters with UK and US governmental agencies and NGOs.
In 1998-9, he played a major role in developing the Scottish
Optoelectronics Association Displays Roadmap and in 1999-2000,
he was a member of the Scottish Enterprise-sponsored
Optoelectronics Cluster Formation Steering Committee, with a
special focus on displays.
In 2000, he left
IBM and founded the Lambent
Consultancy, which undertakes due diligence studies and
project evaluations and offers management and expert testimony
services, mainly but not exclusively in the field of display
technology.
He is a
Non-Executive Director of Screen
Technology Limited and from April to October 2001 was its
interim CEO.
Tony is the
author of 37 technical papers and 34 patent applications, 15
current issued US patents and 14 pending applications. He is the
Series Editor of SID-Wiley book series in Display Technology.
