Stephen P. Atwood
Stephen Atwood is currently Chief
Technology Officer with Capstone Visual Product Development
& Technologies and serves as a consultant to the display
industry. Mr. Atwood has over 20 years of increasing levels of
responsibility in the Display industry. He has created key
technologies in the field of display optical measurement and
managed the development of a number of highly successful
display related products. He has successfully participated as
Engineering and R&D Director in four start-up companies.
Most recently he was an Engineering
Director at Aydin Displays/Three Five Systems where he managed
the technology portfolio of the company's platform industrial
monitor products. Prior to this, Mr. Atwood was the founder
and Chief Technology Office for DisplayCheck, a privately held
company specializing in the continuing development of machine
vision optical inspection systems for leading edge display
technologies including Microdisplays. In his role at
DisplayCheck he has helped lead the development of leading
edge optics and image recognition technology for high volume
production optical characterization of LCOS Microdisplays.
Prior to DCI Mr. Atwood has held senior
technical management positions at several display technology
companies including Virtual Ink, MicroTouch Systems (now 3M
Touch), and Raytheon. While at MicroTouch, Mr. Atwood
pioneered development of the first truly interactive
electronic whiteboard technology marketed as Ibid and was
instrumental in custom engineering touch technology to new
display technologies including CRT, LCD, FED and Plasma. At
Raytheon, Mr. Atwood developed graphic engine systems, CRT
displays, and led research into photo-optical display
measurement technology. Mr. Atwood has also written several
articles for ID magazine, has published papers in a variety of
SID publications, and holds numerous display related patents.
In service to the Society, Mr. Atwood is
the Director of the New England chapter, Executive Editor of
Information Display magazine, and General Chair of the ADEAC
Conference. Mr. Atwood has been active in SID since 1989 when
he began serving on the Program Committee for the
International Symposium. Shortly thereafter he became the
Chair of the New England chapter and continues to organize the
local SID activities in New England. In 2004 Mr. Atwood
organized and served as Program Chair of the first ADEAC
conference. Mr. Atwood was also the MicroDisplay Conference
Chair in 2002.
Mr. Atwood received his Bachelor of Science
degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode
Island and his graduate studies at the University of
Massachusetts, Amherst.
