Munisamy Anandan
Dr. Munisamy Anandan has obtained his Ph. D in
'coplanar plasma display' and has over 30 years of experience
in various types of displays-LCD, CRT, plasma display, LCD
backlighting, FED, vacuum fluorescent display and OLED with 20
patents and 21 research papers.
He came to USA in 1987 and worked in Bell
Communications Research, (Red Bank, NJ) Matsushita Electric
Works R&D lab, (Boston, MA), Thomas Electronics Inc.,
(Wayne, NJ) and eMagin Corporation (Hopewell Junction, NY). He
held the position of Director, Process engineering at eMagin
Corporation. He is currently President & Managing Member
of Organic Lighting Technologies, based in Austin, Texas.
He served Mid-Atlantic chapter from Treasurer
onwards to the Chair position, twice in the cycle. In the
capacity of the Director, he played a leading role in
organizing the First OLED conference, sponsored by the
Mid-Atlantic Chapter, that was successful despite the fact it
took place just 10 days after the world trade center disaster.
He is currently Vice-President of Americas Region of SID and
is nearing his term. As VP of Americas Region, he initiated
'Inter-chapter speakers' exchange program' that came to be
used by many chapters. He established a coordinated effort for
increasing record number of nominations from Americas Region
for International Awards. Recently, he initiated and is
playing an active role in the organization of First Americas
Display Engineering & Applications conference by most
chapters of Americas Region.
He was a member of Advisory Council for the
State University of New York, New Paltz campus. Being an
Advisory Council member, he formed SID Student activity and
introduced a flat panel display course as part of curriculum
for the graduate students.
Anandan seeded the idea of the formation of
SID India Chapter and played a key role in the formation of
SID India Chapter. He coordinated between Mid-Atlantic Chapter
and New England Chapter to help New England Chapter for
enhancing its activity.
He is a member of the Display Systems
Committee since 1994 and helps organizing the LCD backlighting
session for the SID International Symposium every year. He
served as seminar speaker for LCD backlighting in SID' 01,
SID'02 and SID'03.
He also served as 'Joint-Guest Editor' for the
special issue of Journal of SID on LCD backlighting and was a
'Joint-Guest Editor' for the special issue of JSID on plasma
display. Anandan also served on the Editorial Board of JSID as
Associate Editor for plasma display.
