Speaker: Andy Hendrickson
VP-Technology, Walt Disney Animation Studios
Title: Displays and Digital Entertainment

The Walt Disney Company entertains and communicates with its guests through displays in cinemas, theme parks, and homes. The evolution of display technology is, therefore, of critical interest to us as it is to other entertainment companies. In this talk I will describe various display-related challenges and opportunities that are specific to the entertainment industry:

  • Improving artist productivity through novel display technologies and interactions
  • Stereo displays for cinema exhibition and for the home
  • Formats for "future proofing" with unknown displays yet to be conceived
  • Signage displays
  • Low-power, reflective displays for hand-held devices
  • Embedded displays for theme-park characters and props
