M9:
LCD Electronics
Richard McCartney, National
Semiconductor, Santa Clara, CA, USA
The application of
LCDs to a broad set of applications including phones, PDAs,
automobiles, portable instruments, notebook PCs, LCD monitors and
TVs creates a superset of requirements for the LCD drive
electronics. The rationale for each of the various approaches
particular to each major application is reviewed. This seminar
reviews the impact of panel size, response time, motion images,
refresh rate, color gamut and viewing angle among other things on
the LCD panel driving electronics. In particular, the latest
trends in color gamut refresh rate and their implications for the
electronics will be reviewed.
