Both LCD and PDP TV shipments have soared, but who in the display supply chain is benefiting? In addition, he will discuss the technology and cost reduction roadmaps for both LCD and PDPs, current and future costs, prices and channel margins and HD household penetration.
10:00 am Break
10:30 am Cost-Reduction-Issue Techniques from a Quality-Control View, Jeffrey A. Hawthorne, President & Chief Executive Officer, Photon Dynamics
The impact on the flat-panel-TV industry of systems that enable manufacturers to collect and analyze data from the production line and quickly diagnose and repair process-related defects, thereby allowing manufacturers to decrease material costs and improve throughput will be discussed.
11:00 am Cost-Reduction Issues Facing the LCD Industry, Jun Souk, Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics LCD
The industry's revenue is growing rapidly but suffering from recent profit erosion. This presentation will examine the LCD industry's cost reduction effort in order to regain the profit share and to survive in the growing pressure from cost reduction.
11:30 am Panel Discussion
Moderator:
Elliott Schlam, President, Elliott Schlam Associates
The morning's presenters will summarize their impressions of the challenges and opportunities facing the exploding flat-panel-display market in an interactive discussion and Q&A with the audience

2:00 pm The Impact of LED Backlighting, Michael C. Holt, President, Lumileds Lighting U.S. LLC
High- and medium-power LEDs are transforming the science of image projection, the way that people interact with their visual media, and even the media themselves. From LED-based PC monitors and TVs to a new breed of "pocket imagers" for small groups, high-power LED technology is setting new standards for color reproduction and enable never-before-possible applications. The impact of LED backlight units on the growth of the TV market will be discussed.
2:30 pm Analysis of Cost Competitiveness of Large FPD TV and Full-HD TV Prospects, Peter Kwon, CEO, Display Bank
A comparison of cost competitiveness of large-sized (over 40 in.) LCD TV and PDP TV and a forecast cost trend for large FPD TV will be presented. A detailed analysis of the advantages between TFT-LCD and PDP manufacturers will be given. A discussion of the increased demand of full HDTV in the Northern American market and how this fact will influence the large-sized-TV market will be given.
3:00 pm Break
3:30 pm A Revolution in Display Technology: Enabling Next-Generation Wireless Communications, Dr. Jeffrey Sampsell, Vice President of Technology, QUALCOMM MEMS Technologies, Inc.
The mobile phone is becoming a tool not only for voice communications, but also the most personal device for entertainment, computing, and information access. As consumers continue to actively use mobile devices for more hours per charge and for more graphically compelling applications, displays must evolve to be visible in a wider range of lighting conditions while using significantly less power. Current displays are not up to the task.
4:00 pm OLEDs: A Broad Perspective on Their Market Potential
Steve Abramson, President, Universal Display Corp.
As OLED technology attempts to make headway in the market, what challenges and hurdles must be overcome in order for OLEDs to become a mainstream product? The material science and manufacturing issues as well as the ultimate industrial landscape will be discussed.

CONTINUATION OF BUSINESS CONFERENCE
10:30 am Interaction of Display and Applications Markets
Paul Semenza, Vice President, iSuppli Corp.
The electronic display is fundamentally dependent upon the development and growth of applications markets. As a technology, displays can drive the development of such applications, but often at the price of profitability. With the increasing dominance of TFT-LCDs, the development of new applications is critical to the commercialization of new technologies. This talk will explore the interaction of display technologies and applications markets and will examine the prospects for emerging display technologies.
11:00 am AMLCD Substrates: Trends in the LCD TV Era
Peter L Bocko, Vice President, Display Futures, Corning Incorporated
This presentation from arguably the largest and most successful infrastructure provider will discuss the four key themes that have characterized the history of AMLCD substrates and are expected to extend into the future fueled by continued evolution of the LCD-TV platform and emerging portable applications. First, the substrate-size innovations that have created capability for large-sized panels and are changing the TV landscape will extend to the practical 3-m limit. The invention of high-value aluminosilicates, culminating in EAGLE XGÔ for AMLCD-TV can be further expanded in innovative compositions optimized for the polysilicon and OLED platform. Capacity expansions will continue to deliver reliable supply aligned and paced with regional demand. Finally, progress against the so-called LCD legacy issues will drive increased attribute performance.
