Honors & Awards

Awards Banquet:
The Awards Banquet will take place at 8:00 PM on Monday, May 23rd in the Constitution B Ballroom of the Sheraton Boston Hotel. This dinner honors the SID international award winners. Tickets for the dinner are $40 and available only through pre-registration - they will not be available on-site.

International Society for Information Display Awards
At this year's Symposium, the Society is pleased to honor the following individuals for their important contributions to the display profession and to the Society:

Karl Ferdinand Braun Prize
William P. Bleha
For his invention of the liquid-crystal light valve, for fostering its refinement, and for leadership in its application to large-screen projection displays.

Jan Rajchman Prize
Donal Bradley, Jeremy Henley Burroughes
and Richard Friend
For their discovery and contributions to the understanding and development of light-emitting polymers for display applications.

Johann Gutenberg Prize
Josef Schneider
For his numerous innovative contributions to concept development and fundamental inventions critical to the realization of computer-to-press systems for conventional and electronic printing process.

Fellow Awards
The following awardees have been made Fellows of the Society.

Adi Abileah
For his significant contributions to optical enhancements for LCDs, including wide-viewing-angle compensation films and brightness enhancement films for backlights.

Gregory P. Crawford
For his many contributions to the science and technology of liquid-crystal displays, including reflective displays, polymer-stabilized liquid crystal displays, and light modulating films.

Paul S. Drzaic
For fundamental scientific work in the development of polymer dispersed liquid crystals, and technical contributions and leadership in the development of electronic paper technologies.

Hoi-Sing Kwok
For contributions to the development of liquid crystal on silicon microdisplays and related optical systems, and for the development of bistable twisted nematic liquid crystal displays.

Hiroshi Murakami
For his many contributions to the development of HDTV PDPs including the pulse memory drive scheme, large-panel fabrication technologies, and the demonstration of high-performance displays.

Han-Ping Shieh
For his many novel applications of optics and micro-optics for projection and liquid crystal displays and for his contribution to display education.

Special Recognition Awards
The following awardees will receive special recognition.

Keiichi Betsui
For his outstanding contribution to the development of high-luminance and high-resolution plasma displays having the delta cell arrangement.

Satish Kumar Kaura
For outstanding entrepreneurial leadership in the display industry in India.

Thierry Leroux
For outstanding entrepreneurial and technical achievement by founding and leading a company that manufactures innovative instruments for the display industry.

Hiap L. Ong
For his many contributions to the science and technology of LCDs, especially optical modeling and characterization.

Gerrit Oversluizen
For developing a plasma display with simultaneous high luminous efficiency and high luminance.

Tomokazu Shiga
For ingenious applications of gas discharges to LCD backlights and plasma displays.

Deng-Ke Yang
For his pioneering work on polymer-stabilized cholesteric devices and reflective displays.
