Tolis Voutsas

Tolis Voutsas has been actively involved in LCD technology and business since 1989. He joined SHARP in 1994 and, since then, he has participated in and contributed to numerous projects pertinent to a-Si and poly-Si TFT material, process and device technology for AM-LCDs. His experience covers both research and technical management. He has held a number of engineering and management positions within SHARP, with his current role mostly focusing on technology strategy and new business outlook. Tolis has been an active member in the scientific community and organized or co-organized a number of display conferences over the years. Between 1999 and 2001 he held an adjunct professor appointment at the Mechanical Engineering department of Washington State University (WSU).

He has authored or co-authored 3 book chapters on poly-Si TFT technology and numerous journal publications. He has been issued more than 50 US patents. Tolis received his Diploma in Engineering from the Polytechnic School of Thessaloniki (Greece) and his MS and Ph.D. degrees from Lehigh University. He also received the MS degree in Engineering Management from Washington State University.

Tolis has been active with SID since 1989, first as a student member, and later as a member and senior member. He presented several talks at SID symposia, has written for the Journal of SID and presented in the seminar series during SID week. Between 2001 and 2003 he served as Chair for the Pacific NW Chapter and in 2003 he has was elected to the position of Director of PNW-SID, which he currently holds.
