Prior to Azonix, Stephen was Chief Technology Officer with Capstone Visual Product Development & Technologies where he served as a consultant to the display industry. Before that he was Engineering Director at Aydin Displays/Three Five Systems where he managed the technology portfolio of the company's platform industrial monitor products. Prior to this, Mr. Atwood was the founder and Chief Technology Office for DisplayCheck, a privately held company specializing in the continuing development of machine vision optical inspection systems for leading edge display technologies including microdisplays. In his role at DisplayCheck he has helped lead the development of leading edge optics and image recognition technology for high volume production optical characterization of LCOS microdisplays.
Prior to DCI Mr. Atwood held senior technical management positions at several display technology companies including Virtual Ink, MicroTouch Systems (now 3M Touch), and Raytheon. While at MicroTouch, Mr. Atwood pioneered development of the first truly interactive electronic whiteboard technology marketed as "Ibid" and was instrumental in custom engineering touch technology to new display technologies including CRT, LCD, FED and Plasma. He holds two US patents related to electronic whiteboarding.
Stephen began his career at Raytheon Company, where he developed graphic engine systems, CRT displays, and led research into photo-optical display measurement technology.
In service to SID, Stephen is the Director of the New England chapter of the Society for Information Display, Executive Editor of Information Display Magazine, and past General Chair of the SID Applications Conferences. He manages the editorial content and publishing operations of ID magazine (www.informationdisplay.org) and has numerous publication citations. Mr. Atwood has been active in SID since 1989 when he began serving on the Program Committee for the International Symposium. Shortly thereafter he became the Chair of the New England chapter and continues to organize the local SID activities in New England.
Mr. Atwood received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and conducted his graduate studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
