Robert L. Donofrio
Director Metropolitan Detroit Chapter
Mr. Robert Donofrio received his degrees from Hofstra University (BS Applied Physics), New York University (MS Physics) and Rochester Institute of Technology (ME General Engineering/Management).
He has served as SID Vice President of the Americas Region in 1998 & 1999. He is Program Chair of the Vehicle Display Session of SID'2000 and was the co-chair of the Vehicle Display Session of SID'1999. He was a member of the CRT Program Subcommittee for the 1995 SID International Symposium. He was also Co-Chair of the 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 & 1999 Flat Panel Strategic Forum and Vehicle Display Symposia held in Ypsilanti Michigan by the SID Metropolitan Detroit Chapter and the University of Michigan. He has been on the International Advisory Committee for the International Symposia on Advanced Display Technologies in 1998 (in Belarus) and in 1999 (in Ukraine). He received the President’s Certificate of Commendation from the SID in l996, 1999 & 2000. He is a member of the SID, OSA, SAE, CIE and the Detroit Color Council. He has been a member of the SID Metropolitan Detroit Chapter since 1990, held positions as Program Chair, Chair and Director. He is very involved with supporting the display community in Michigan.
Mr. Donofrio has over 35 years of experience in display device technology. He has worked for the Radiation and Solid State Labs of NYU and for Philips Display Components at their facilities in Seneca Falls, NY, Ottawa, Ohio and Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has been specifically engaged in Phosphors, Phosphor Screening, Optical Processes in Manufacturing and Production, Optical & Color Measurements of Displays, Thin film optical filters and Arc Lamps. He is an inventor and or co-inventor of eleven (11) US Patents and ten (10) Philips proprietary awards. He has written over 45 articles in Display Technology and also was a co-author/co-editor of six books in the field of displays.
In 1996 Mr. Donofrio left Philips and started his own company “Display Device Consultants” (DDC), specializing in Consulting in phosphor screening, exposure systems, photo-lithography and color measurement for Flat Panel and CRT manufacturers. DDC also does display measurement consulting for companies involved with display applications. Additionally, DDC is a Sales Representative Advanced Radiation Corp (Mfr. of UV & Xenon lamps) used for Display Manufacturing, Micro-electronics and other Photolithographic technologies. Sales territory for the lamp sales is in the States of Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and parts of the Provinces of Ontario and Quebec Canada. DDC is also a distributor for a number of companies involved in the display industry.
