Fang-Chen Luo

Dr. Luo received his BSEE degree from Cheng Kung Univ. in 1966 and Ph.D in electrical engineering from Northwestern University in 1973.

Dr. Luo has been a pioneer in the development of active matrix addressed display devices. He was a key member of the team at Westinghouse demonstrating the first working TFT-EL and TFT-LC display panels in 1973 and 1974 respectively. From 1979 to 1986, he worked at Xerox and Panelvision, both on AMLCDs. From 1986 to 1990, he was the manager of a TFT-LCD pilot line at GE which successfully demonstrated the feasibility of AMLCDs for military avionics applications. From 1990 to 1996, he was Vice President at OIS leading efforts which established OIS as a premier manufacturer for military avionics AMLCDs in the US. Currently, Dr. Luo is Vice President, Unipac Optoelectronics Corp. in charge of technology developments. Unipac is located in Science-based Industrial Park, Hsinchu, Taiwan engaging in AMLCD manufacturing.

Dr. Luo was awarded a special recognition award by SID in 1990 for his continuous contributions toward the development of TFT-LC displays. He was elected to Fellow in SID in 1992. He has more than 40 published papers and 8 patents in TFT-related areas.
